Immigration Manager Patsy Ah-Ching

The Apia office of Immigration New Zealand are asking all successful registrants in the latest Samoa Quota ballots to come see them for individual consultations.

This differs from past years where clients were invited to seminars to talk about how to put their residence applications together.

Immigration Manager Patsy Ah-Ching says it’s a ‘customised service’ approach.

“Every client will get a case manager,” says Mrs Ah-Ching.

“These officers will be responsible for seeing clients individually to explain their letters inviting them to apply for residence, and to complete their English assessments,” says Mrs Ah-Ching.

“It also means that we are able to get people’s professional profiles ready for employers coming to recruit from New Zealand.”

Mrs Ah-Ching says it’s important to understand that professional profiles are about people’s skills. So even if people haven’t been in paid employment – caring for family, working in the plantation and having a role in the church are all important skills.

“And some of these skills are seen as valuable in New Zealand,” she says. “So we encourage people to give us as much information as possible and to think about all unpaid work when they come in.”

Immigration New Zealand is currently engaging with employers from New Zealand to be able to offer jobs to those who were successful in the ballot.

This year 7337 ‘principal registrants’ were registered which made a total of 17558 registrants when families were added. Principal registrants are the main applicants for each family.

Don't Know about you, but this Immigration Policy
written by Hey Man, July 18, 2008
Samoa needs to review the Immigration status and policy to all countries. Government to Government talks needs to re-establish Human Rights issues with Immigration and Quota's.

The Word Quota is so slavery driven, last Samoan on the boat please keep rowing.

I see Reforms in this area of Samoa policy and needs revisit. Why is it a Quota? Do we Quota N.Z Citizens and such? Is their a need for reform based on performance linked.

For instance, when a proffesor from Samoa immigrates to New Zealand is he part of the quota? And if so, why? Is he not a productive member of Samoan Society? or is the Immigration policy one of preference and or racist? What if a business man with a bank account immigrates to New Zealand, is he then not a productive member of the N.Z society and if he invest his monies in N.Z and creates jobs for N.Z citizens, is he/she declared a Quota?
