Where is the justice?

I cannot believe what I am hearing here in Australia! The Samoa I used to know, was a beautiful place where none of this rubbish was even heard of. It is a great tourism destination for the 'westeners' and this is what they have to hear about? Samoa is still a poor country and you don't give a damn about doing anything to help build the economy.
In Australia, when something like that happens to anybody is called "ATTEMPTED MURDER". Because that is their intention and they will serve time. All I have read is "Poor victim", "Bless her and her family", while nothing is being done about the person who committed the crime. Give me a break! These kids who committed the crime should serve time. Government leaders along with Police and the Education Board should be strict with these sorts of criminal acts. If schools cannot get along with each other, don't do activities together. But something seriously needs to be done to get Samoa back on track. It is people like them that give us hard working Samoans inside and outside of Samoa a very bad name. - Concerned Samoan

Forget about the Kids, What about the Adults-- Is the're any left in Samoa?

kids only practice what they see-- they see unrest, they practice the same
see ben run, watch ben throw(molotov) that is and see building on fire
sad for all involved-- the children are the unrest of the adults-- parents what are you telling you children--
Is it that we need a new Prime Minister or remove all the MP's. Stop showing you anger to the kids at home.

Try this poem-- loving parents, loving kids--- parents ruled by terror, kids will provide error
supress me at home, I will take out on the cops, teacher and whoever--- Read Freud please, the man was a genius--- simply - oh boy

WHAT IS AT THE HEART OF THESE CONFLICTS? PART II

In no way do I condone these acts. I'm saddened by the malice of the criminal acts, and more than anything my heart goes out to the victims - the innocent. I'm praying they, especially the young student who was directly targeted because of her uniform, will be able to come through this with the support of her family and friends.

Perhaps, restorative justice is more appropriate for these youth rather than imprisonment without rehabilitation so that they will become productive members of society that Samoa can be proud of. Perhaps, they can serve their sentence in the victim's village. Does ifoga still play a vital role in Samoa? If so, how relevant is it to the youth of today? Just a few thoughts to consider.

Forgiveness is the key to moving forward.

I am a little confused as to why there was also a teacher arrested amongst the students.

This is very very very sad story. I sympathize with the poor girls family.

My heart just melts reading this article.
It just makes me sick. I ask myself, how has education, religion and overall developments helped shape the behaviour of these so called 'rascals'?

If we are to analyse thoroughly the real causes of problems pertaining to behaviours and attitudes, it all comes down to their respective up-bringing. I read someones comment about slide in moral values and the changing behaviour of our children these days and I for one agree it is very true.
The influence from movies, television and the internet as well as adopted overseas styles has put more fuel to the flames of barbaric behaviours. So whenever theres a flick of light among gatherings the whole place becomes a show room with 'wanna-bes' strutting their stuff to be popular or related reasons.
It is rather disgusting when the teachers and parents seems to agree with this type of behaviour. moreso getting them involved and when fights break out, they put on brave faces and smiling to the camera as if they are all innocent.
Its time both children and the parents are made to pay for the damages caused. Afterall, it is the parents who were supposed to teach their kid good values and consideration of all the good things around us, no excuse at all.

My prayers to this Leififi girl and her family for what they are going thru. While forgiveness helps moving us forward to the next level, we must never forget that the perpertrators of violence should never be given the second chance for a punishment. The damage has been done extensively and they have to pay what they did to this poor girl. A crime is a crime, better to discipline them while they are still young otherwise we are harbouring and nurturing another bin Laden of the future. - jack

Police should make an example of these idiots

Throwing a molotov cocktail is a clear intent to harm. The victim, an innocent bystander, is now traumatized by the actions of an idiot. Why don't these schools challenge each other academically? Fighting to see who is the stronger school is a medieval mindset. The only benefit to the country from these types of students is the prospect of having an abundant source of road sweepers in the future. - Sam Afa
