As expressed by some folks, punish only those responsible and the schools involved. Impose a monetary fine for the schools involved. i.e. schools to compensate the injured innocent(s), pay to rebuild damages to businesses and perform community services for 8 hrs/Sat. for 4 consecutive Saturdays. And if proven, the guilty student(s) should pay a monetary fine. Expelling or suspension will not do the student any educational justice because his/her education will be lost or limited. People riot for many unknown reasons, and it is not uncommon for fans of the winning team to riot in the streets. I also disagree with the comments indicating that the Samoan (island-raised) youths have brought bad behaivors to the U.S. Lets stick to the facts: People riot all over the world whether it is sports related or not. When I was stationed in South Korea, the Koreans rioted for every possible cause known to man. Soccer fans in Europe riot when they win, and lose. Is education the answer to their rioting. Absolutely no. So, lets not look down on our own people because of the poor choices of a few. As an OU Alum, I attend the OU/Texas football game every year. Fans for both schools look forward to this rivalry game and every year over 100,000 plus fans simply get at each others throats. As you can see education does not change fan behavior. Soccer games in Europe, Centeral and South America often have major, major riots that spills into the streets, so stop cutting down on the youth of my country. This is a worldwide problem because it comes with being competetiveness. I don't like fights and riots but I also understand that kids will be kids and these kind of things happen in sports. My disappointment comes when you called a people undereducated, under-represented, illiterate and barbaric. When some kid open fires on a US campus, we don't say Americans are murderers, or when a College team wins the NCAA tournament and the kids riot and burn cars in the street we don't say the Americans are undereducated; when Bush drives the country into deep --- we don't say Americans are idiots. No, we don't say that because we, the rest of Samoa know better. We don't let the actions of a few smear the good name of others. Why punished the whole school system whey only four schools involved? Suspend these schools from participating in any sport events for two years or so. Also have the schools pay for the damage to business in town and monetary compensations for the victims. The schools involved should also given community service hours to clean the town area which they trashed. And it is a good idea to put these in school sports bylaws or even in the law to try and prevent these kind of acts from happenning. It will serve as a reminder to the rest of the schools in Samoa if they misbehave their fate is the same. Samoa is not the only place these out-of-control losers are doing this. Samoans in the US are also behaving the same - not just in high school but also in their local churches. It's no wonder foreigners think Samoans are primitive and uncivilized group of people. It makes a lot of sense. When you bring those Samoans here in the US they will continue to behave the same way. I'm starting to wonder if Samoans are genetically barbaric. It's no wonder our Samoans are undereducated, underrepresented, and illiterate. For example, Don Bosco and Leififi together while Avele and St Joseph another. The next year, we change it around, D.Bosco and Avele, St Joseph Leififi. What ever way you would like to do the mix, it's important to rotate every year. And while we do that, another emphasis should be the teaching of moral values, proper behaviour etc. in schools. We can continue in this style until we see the inter school rivalry demolished and our society's thinking towards competitions change for the good.
