okay here we go again, as i said on the first message - paleez give me a break - who are we kidding? no one ALLOWED the government to use $640 million tala - as usual, they want it, they take it, they will use it. we'll be lucky if we ever get the true breakdown of that money - exactly what the government plans to use that money for - well that's the $640 million tala question - but i will bet you that by this time next year the hospital will still be the city dump, education will still be looking for funding, the amount of under aged children hawking wares and begging on the streets of apia will have doubled, the roads will have triple the potholes, raw sewage will be the norm at the market and the $640 million tala is nowhere to be found. The government, however will have some things to show for it, they will be brand new landcruisers for all the cabinet ministers and pm, to the tune of $200,000.00 tala each, the wife and children will have brand new pickups for the plantation or just for cruising around town, most if not all of the hrpp party and their spouses would have had gone on at least two all paid for overseas trips and the districts they hail from will have a couple of tar sealed plantation access roads. what do think of that budget. - Rita

I love the headline here: "Government ALLOWED to spend $640 million" - haha - talk about half-information. The news story is about the budget, yet we have pictures of MPs eating at a restaurant. The clear implication is that the MPs are using the 640 million on themselves or that the MPs eat eat eat and do nothing with their time. What kind of poor and lazy journalism is this? No analysis of the budget, no break-down of allocations, no nothing. I'm sure newsline can do better than this.

Yes it is a pretty skimpy news story on the most important piece of legislation for the year. I think the best way to see a breakdown of the budget is to go and download the budget speech from the Ministry of Finance website www.mof.gov.ws
